Description

Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Part-Time Educational Assistant - Case Manager Assistant at Centennial Elementary School.  This position works 5.25 hours per day when students are in school.

 

This position performs a variety of complex and diverse clerical work requiring independent judgement and a thorough knowledge of our student information system, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) procedures and practices, and school district functions.  This position coordinates and prepares complex documentation and reports, maintains records requiring compilation and classification of varied information, orchestrates process for setting up meetings and uses organizational skills to attend to details required in special education processes.

 

Essential Functions

Essential duties of this position include the following.  Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Independent compilation of information and records pertaining to department functions (IDEA), compilation and tracking of staff and parent communications and notifications.
  • Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and district laws, policies and procedures regarding area of assignment such as IDEA.
  • Completes reports for state and district personnel; maintains accurate, up-to-date records and supply administrators and teachers with correct information when required.
  • Schedules and arranges details for IDEA related meetings.
  • Maintains an accurate, up-to-date filing system, using both a computer database or spreadsheet program and conventional document filing system.
  • Maintains system for assuring confidentiality of student records.
  • Completes required District logs, forms, and paperwork as required.
  • Assists students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
  • Assesses and records student academic and behavior measures.
  • May provide direct assistance to teacher/bus/van driver in relation to student management and school/bus/van safety.
  • May provide direct assistance to student’s behavioral, academic and/or personal needs.
  • May assist with maintaining student discipline in the absence of the teacher/bus/van driver.
  • May assist students with behavior management, including de-escalation, conflict resolution, and adherence to school/bus/van behavioral expectations.
  • May assist students with special needs and/or adaptive equipment.
  • May, under direct supervision of a licensed teacher, provide supplemental practice for various learning experiences, including drills and activities using effective strategies to reinforce and/or modify skills.
  • May provide ongoing training and proactive assistance to students in relation to meeting academic and behavioral expectations.
  • Provides proactive supervision of students in a variety of settings.
  • May perform setting up and taking down of materials, supplies and furniture to support the behavioral and academic success of students.
  • May assist in planning and implementing learning experiences for students.
  • Performs duties associated with general record keeping related to the accounting of funds received.
  • Evaluates student injuries and performs first aid.
  • Attends in-service trainings and staff meetings as directed.
  • Conducts basic data entry assignments.
  • May assist with attendance, attendance monitoring, and attendance reporting.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (May be acquired through education, training, and/or experience.)

 

Knowledge of:

  • Federal procedures involved in the administration of IDEA and corresponding records;
  • District policies and procedures;
  • Modern office practices and procedures;
  • Developed letter writing, correct language usage;
  • Developed receptionist, telephone and record keeping/filing systems;
  • Developed computer hardware and software programs and their usage;
  • Modern office equipment;
  • Safety and first aid practices and procedures.

Ability to:

  • Understand and apply Federal IDEA, District and school policies and procedures;
  • Maintain appropriate appearance and attire;
  • Maintain attendance standards as outlined in OSEA bargaining agreement;
  • Greet stakeholders;
  • Provide information pertaining to area and/or District/School policies, procedures and other pertinent information;
  • Operate maintain and arrange for repair various office/school equipment;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds;
  • Maintain records;
  • Utilize keyboarding skills commensurate with the required functions for this position;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding, make mathematical calculations accurately;
  • Follow oral and written instructions.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education/Experience

  • Associates degree or higher (attach diploma); OR
  • Completion of two years post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours, 48 semester units (attach transcripts); OR
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) AND
  • Meet a rigorous standard of quality, and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment or para-professional certificate program, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, as appropriate, reading/language arts, writing and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration & Other Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card and pass SafeSchools training modules as assigned;
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
